§ 2.29. Powers and duties of mayor.

  • The mayor shall be the chief executive officer of the city and shall serve as the city's spokesperson and representative, the presiding officer of the city council, and the organization's chief policy advocate. The mayor shall sign all deeds and contracts, except deeds made for property sold under execution at public sale, which shall be signed by the marshal or chief of police, and be clothed with veto power as hereinafter set out. The mayor shall keep the council advised from time to time of the general condition of the city and shall recommend such measures as the mayor may deem necessary or expedient for the welfare of the city. The mayor shall preside over the meetings of the city council and may call the council together at any time when deemed necessary by the mayor and shall also devote all the time necessary to the discharge of the duties of mayor of the city.
